Mersin is the most important port in the south of Turkey with several container & conventional lines serving Mersin regularly. The Port has been privatized in the year 2007, and will increase its capacity in near future.

Mersin is the nearest port to important industrial areas of Southern Turkey such as Adana, Gaziantep, Urfa, Maras and Kayseri. Besides local import/export cargo, Mersin is also a transit port for Iraq.
