Support Engineer (Network SME)

"2nd” line Support Engineer (Network SME)

The support team is responsible for the smooth functioning of the infrastructure and operational environments that support application deployment for the internal and external customers, including the network infrastructure; server and device management; computer operations; IT infrastructure library (ITIL) management; and helpdesk services for an organization.

The support team consists of generalists with each member having their own area(s) of expertise. You will be required respond to incident and standard change tickets assigned to the team. You will function as an SME regarding network and firewall related topics for other members within your team and the Servicedesk as well as a liaison role towards the 3rd line engineering team.

Your Tasks & Responsibilities:
Infrastructure Support:

o Infrastructure – All networking functions for internal and external IT communications (router, firewalls, DNS servers, load balancing, etc.);
o Security – ensuring the network is secured only to authorized users and to prevent/counter attacks from outside sources;
o Remote access to the network for users – Setting up access from outside the network using techniques such as VPN and two-factor authentication.;
o Monitoring infrastructure health and respond when an issue occurs on a resource (E.G.  storage, mail, file servers, application servers and communications);
o Server management for applications and infrastructure – Set up configuration, maintenance, upgrades, patching, repair and impact analysis;
o Resource management to insure that all applications have sufficient disk, memory, backup, and archiving; to function properly;
o Mail and file server configuration and folder setup and authorizations; 
o PC provisioning – Configuration, management, break/fix, applications installation & configuration, upgrades of company devices;
o Mobile device and cell phone management – managing mobile devices approved by the organization;
o Desktop, laptop, and mobile device software application management.

Computer Operations & Service Desk Support:
o Providing Level 2 support for the Service Desk - with responsibility of escalating issues to; and following up on issues with Level 3 support;
o Auditing – Proving to stakeholders (corporate auditors, the government, regulatory agencies, business partners, etc.) that our network is correctly configured and secured;
o Backup management- Instituting and running daily, weekly, monthly, yearly backups to insure data can be recovered, if needed
o Maintain, manage, and add to the existing documentation for the organization.

Other areas responsible for
o Responsible for working with vendors;
o Working with outside resources that provide services for our infrastructure;
o Respond to incident and change tickets assigned to the support team;
o Project management and deployment – Assisting with deploying improvements and fixes to the network and applications infrastructure;
o Performing root cause analysis and implement solutions for recurring issues;
o Writing knowledge articles/Instructional documentation for other engineers;
o Assist in training the ServicedDesk to move towards a "First call fix" environment.

Who are you:
o You have a Bachelor’s degree in the field of computer science or management information systems or a related discipline;
o Certification(s) or proven working experience with in at least one( preferably two) of the following fields: MCSA Windows Server 2016, VMware Horizon, CISCO (CCNA) Routing and Switching, Red Hat System Administrator (RHCSA);
o 3-5 years of equivalent work experience in a technical and analytical position responsible for managing server environments in an Enterprise Environment;
o Working knowledge of network and Server operating systems, including Windows Server 2016 and Windows Server 2019; 
o Working knowledge of virtualization technologies like VMware;
o Working knowledge of storage technologies. Dell VNX, Unity, Recoverpoint and, QNAP;
o Working knowledge of application technologies, including Microsoft Exchange, Veeam backup, VMware, Cisco, Fortinet;
o Strong communicator and Excellent troubleshooting skills;
o Ability to self-manage work and escalations;
o Experience in remotely installing, configuring, and maintaining all manners of server hardware and associated network equipment, including RAID, Full Flash and I/O topology;
o Experience with server performance tuning and monitoring tools like SolarWinds.
o Ability to read and understand ( writing is a pré ) a scripting language to automate processes;
o Proficient in Dutch and English.
