
Overview:
The overall purpose of the job is to assist in the management of personnel safety; manage the day to day operations of the warehouses and yards; plan, organize and utilize resources under your control; ensure that all shipping instructions are fulfilled as per the clients instructions; perform all logistical and administrative activities essential to sustaining revenue and client satisfaction; control expenses vs. budget; to assist management in identifying growth opportunities; ensure compliance with all statutory requirements; handle all Industrial Relations (IR) and Human Relations (HR) related matters including trade unions; establish and maintain relationships with key clients and suppliers; promote excellent customer service, just in time (JIT) and zero defects principles; negotiate rates and services with suppliers where applicable; demonstrate leadership skills; to safeguard and accept responsibility of client and company property; the full management and control of cargo whilst adhering to all applicable policies, procedures and requirements both company and legislative; to manage and instil company policies and values with subordinates.
Key Job Functions:
Follow and uphold Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) policies
- Assist with the safety of all colleagues, clients, suppliers or any other party in your work area.
- Ensure that you know and adhere to all SHEQ policies and requirements.

- Address any breach of SHEQ policy or requirement, or incident.
- Report any recommendations for improving SHEQ policies.
Follow and uphold all Company policies and procedures

Ensure safekeeping of client cargo
- Ensure that all client cargo is stored in a secure environment and that no pilferage or damage occurs.
- Take immediate steps to report any incident of pilferage or damage.
Manage staff
- Ensure that staff meet client, operational and administrational requirements and deadlines as per their Job Descriptions and Standard Operation Procedures.
- Implement new policies and procedures required by senior management.
- Manage distribution of work when warehouse managers or team leaders are on leave.
- Communicate with the team on the work expectations and the required job standards
- Address all HR and IR issues.
- Deal with poor work performance decisively
- Demonstrate leadership skills
- Ensure that or arrange for the correct compliment of staff to carry out the planned work for the day.
- Monitor or assist with in-service training of new incumbents.
- Ensure the implementation of Performance Ownership.
Full management and control of cargo
- Ensure that the arrival notification is received from customer service.
- Ensure that cargo is received as per client specifications.
- Ensure correct documentation is produced on receipt of cargo.
- Ensure that the physical receipt ties up with the documentation.
- Ensure all receiving discrepancies and special service requests are recorded and reported accordingly.
- Ensure that a goods receipt note is generated once cargo has been received.
- Ensure that cargo is stacked as per client specifications.
- Ensure stack cards are placed on the cargo once received and stacked in the warehouse.
- Prevent warehouse and cargo damage.
- Ensure that all warehouse special service requests are recorded and reported accordingly.
- Ensure that the dispatch notification is received from customer service.
- Ensure that cargo is dispatched as per client specifications.
- Ensure that shipment deadlines are met.
- Ensure that correct documentation is produced on the dispatch of cargo.
- Ensure that physical dispatched cargo ties up with documentation.
- Ensure that all dispatching discrepancies and special service requests are resolved or recorded and reported accordingly.
- Ensure that a relevant goods dispatch note is generated on dispatch of cargo
Communicate and enforce SHEQ
- Observe, communicate to all staff and enforce all company and legislated safety standards at all times.
- Observe, communicate to all staff and enforce all company housekeeping standards at all times.
- Observe, communicate to all staff and enforce all company and legislated environmental standards at all times.
- Ensure that monthly SHEQ inspection reports are completed and sent to the SHEQ manager.
- Ensure that all personal protection equipment (PPE) requirements are followed by all parties on site at all times.
Control costs
- Develop budgets along with the Finance and Managing Director for the Branch.
- Ensure that all costs are proportionately in line with revenue as per the budgeted cost percentages.
- Ensure that staff compliment does not exceed the task allowance.
- Ensure that all machinery is correctly operated so as to eliminate injuries and abuse breakdowns.
- Ensure that all machinery is maintained within the required intervals.
- Minimise operating costs, which is not in contradiction with operational objectives.
Observe and enforce customs regulations
- Ensure that all cargo is stored in the correct warehouses with the correct customs numbers.
- Ensure that the physical stock, stock records and bond register agree at all times.
- Ensure that all bonded cargo is properly marked with the Customs Requirement details.
- Ensure that stack cards are updated with any cargo movement.
- Ensure that no bonded cargo is dispatched without a customs release.
Other
- Promote excellent customer service.
- Perform all logistical and administrative activities essential to sustaining revenue and client satisfaction.

Requirements
Education
- Bachelors Degree / Diploma in Logistics or Supply Chain Management
Experience
- 3+ years in handling Specialised products: Metals, Minerals, Agri,
- Tobacco and General Cargo,
- Minimum 2 years of Administrative Experience
- 2+ years of Management Experience in Logistics
Skills
- High level of computer literacy – MS Office
