Overview:
Accountable for delivering reliable, resilient, and business-enabling Information Management and
Analytics capabilities for the Region. The role owns the regional data platform and partners closely with
the Global Data & Analytics function to help establish the migration towards a global cloud data platform
on Snowflake, ensuring architectural and operating model alignment over time. Acting as the single point
of contact for data, information management, and analytics enablement for the region, this role drives
data quality, governance, security, and adoption across all functions, divisions, and business units.
Key Job Functions:
Strategy, Architecture & Alignment
- Define and socialise the regional Data & Analytics strategy and operating model; ensure alignment with global data strategy, operating model, target architecture and standards.
- Lead the regional Microsoft Fabric migration towards the global Snowflake platform, including data product interoperability and convergence roadmap.
- Maintain and govern the company-wide (CSB) semantic information model framework (conformed dimensions, canonical metrics, data contracts, and definitions) for consistent reporting and analytics.
- Keep abreast of industry and vendor developments (Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, Databricks, SAP Datasphere/ SAP Analytics Cloud, dbt, modern MDM, data catalogues) and influence regional and global direction.
Platform Delivery & Operations (Data Ops/SRE)
- Own regional Data & Analytics platforms (Fabric, Power BI) that enable reporting and analysis at all levels.
- As the global data platform is established, dataset ownership will be adjusted in line with establishing global datasets.
- Establish DataOps/DevOps for pipelines and models (source control, CI/CD, environment promotion, code/config management) using Jira/Azure DevOps/GitHub.
- Define and manage SLOs/SLAs, observability (monitoring, lineage, health), incident/problem/change processes, and on-call rotations for resilient operations. This is to be done by leveraging and aligning with already established global data and service management processes.
- Manage costs and optimisation for cloud data workloads; manage regional platform capacity and performance.
- Lead delivery of new solutions for information management (ingestion, transformation, orchestration, metadata, lineage, and access).
Data Governance, Quality & MDM
- Establish and chair regional data governance forums; implement policies and procedures ensuring data quality, consistency, privacy, and security.
- Define and implement regional MDM strategy (master and reference data aligned with the Global Data & MDM strategies) and required solutions across technology platforms; steward golden records and data domains.
- Implement data quality frameworks (controls, rules, thresholds, remediation workflows) with reporting to business stewards and leadership.
- Ensure compliance with security & privacy requirements (e.g., access control, SoD, encryption, key management, POPIA/GDPR as applicable), and manage data lifecycle/retention.
Analytics Enablement & Adoption
- Provide a single point of contact and accountability for information services (demand, prioritisation, change & release).
- Enable self-service BI at scale (governed datasets/semantic models, certified content, usage patterns) and become part of the Global D&A Centre of Excellence for training, standards, and best practices.
- Partner with business stakeholders to co-create data products and value-based outcomes (KPIs, OKRs, benefit tracking) across use cases (e.g., supply chain & logistics, finance, commercial).
Stakeholder, Vendor & Financial Management
- Lead discussions with senior stakeholders on system health, governance, and support SLA performance; provide transparent dashboards and comms.
- Manage service providers and vendors effectively (contracts, performance, roadmap co-creation).
- Support creation and stewardship of annual IT Capex/Opex plans for information management and analytics.
Risk, Compliance & Security
- Ensure adherence to information security, privacy, segregation of duties, and access control; embed privacy by design and data minimisation.
- Own audit readiness (controls evidence, policy adherence) and disaster recovery objectives (RTO/RPO) for critical data services.
People Leadership
- Build and develop a multi-disciplinary data team (engineering, governance, analytics, platform operations).
- Mentor and coach; cultivate a community of practice across the Region and with Global D&A to share standards, patterns, and learning.
