News Flash: Dar es Salaam Update

Please take note of the current situation in Dar es Salaam following the recent disruptions caused by the elections.

  • WhatsApp and other social media platforms remain unstable. According to NetBlocks, “widespread restrictions to multiple social media and messaging platforms persist as Tanzania comes back online after a five-day internet shutdown.” The disruption continues to limit communication channels across the country.
  • Public transport services are very limited, resulting in many staff members being unable to reach work this morning.
  • Fuel shortages are being reported in various areas, further impacting logistics and transport operations.
  • The Port of Dar es Salaam is reopening gradually, but no vehicles are currently being allowed into the port. Authorities are first clearing trucks that were abandoned inside during the unrest before normal access can resume.
  • Our KICD Warehouse is experiencing restricted movement, with no trucks allowed in or out of the area at this time.
  • Our Tazara Warehouse is more accessible, and roads in that vicinity are slowly reopening.
  • All Steinweg offices and facilities currently have stable internet connectivity and are reachable via Microsoft Teams or email, though WhatsApp remains unavailable for now.

We continue to monitor the situation closely and will keep you informed as conditions improve and normal operations resume.
