Overview:
The overall purpose of the job is to collect, analyse, and report operational, financial, safety, and performance data across terminal operations and generate actionable data-driven insights to support strategic decision-making, operational efficiency, and process optimisation.
Key requirements of the job
Cargo Volume & Terminal Throughput Analysis
- Monitor, track, and analyse cargo throughput, container/bulk movements, and yard capacity utilisation.
- Calculate and report vehicle, equipment, and vessel turnaround times (TAT) to identify operational bottlenecks and delay drivers.
- Track client volume trends and service levels to ensure operational commitments and key client SLAs are consistently met.
Fuel, Fleet & Resource Tracking
- Track and analyse fuel receiving, storage levels, consumption rates, equipment mileage, and variances across all terminal machinery and equipment.
- Conduct root-cause analysis on fuel anomalies, operational idle times, equipment downtime, and maintenance inefficiencies.
- Collaborate with terminal supervisors to optimise equipment scheduling and fleet allocation.
Financial & Cost Control Insights
- Analyse operational cost drivers, freight and handling tariffs, storage charges, and demurrage penalties.
- Assist in reconciling physical activity with billing data, stock records, and system entries.
- Prepare variance reports comparing operational spend and resource consumption against set budgets and historical baselines.
Safety & HSE Compliance Data
- Maintain safety metrics and track HSE key performance indicators, including incidents, near-misses, and safety audits.
- Monitor compliance with safety guidelines regarding fuel handling, equipment operation, and terminal traffic.
Data Reporting & Systems Management
- Design, update, and maintain operational dashboards using Excel, Power BI, etc
- Ensure accurate data entry and reconcile data discrepancies across various terminal departments and customer IT systems.
- Prepare and submit consolidated daily, weekly, and monthly performance reports directly to the Terminals General Manager.
- Generate analytical business reports for management
Others
- Ensure personal compliance with company OHS policies and requirements.
- Ensure full adherence to relevant company policies, procedures, and data confidentiality standards.
- Perform any other reasonable analytical or operational duties assigned by leadership.
Requirements
Education
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics & Transport Management, Accounting/Finance, Statistics, Business Information Technology, Data Analytics, or a related quantitative field.
Experience
- 2 to 3 years of practical experience working as a Data Analyst, Logistics/Fleet Analyst, Finance/Operations Analyst, or in a similar quantitative role.
- Industry-agnostic: Candidates can come from any sector (FMCG, Logistics, Telecommunications, Manufacturing, Retail, or Audit/Consulting) provided they have a strong track record of operational or financial data analysis.
Technical Skills
- Advanced MS Excel: Demonstrated 2+ years of hands-on experience using Pivot Tables, complex functions (XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, nested IFs), data cleaning, and dynamic dashboard creation.
- Multi-Metric Analysis: Proven ability to analyse operational metrics (volumes, cargo throughput, vehicle turnaround time), equipment utilisation (fuel consumption, idle time, downtime), and basic financial variances (costs vs. budget, tariffs, demurrage).
- Data Reconciliation & Accuracy: Strong attention to detail, with experience auditing raw data entries, identifying system discrepancies, and reconciling physical reports with records.
