
Overview:
The Transport Shorthaul & Linehaul Supervisor is responsible for managing end-to-end transport brokerage operations across local (shorthaul) and long-distance (linehaul) routes for C. Steinweg Bridge Tanzania Ltd. The role ensures efficient capacity sourcing, third-party carrier management, high standards of customer service delivery, and profitable transport execution.
A key focus of this position is driving continuous improvement across all operational Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), workflows, and the Transport Management System (TMS) to enhance service, compliance, and overall operational efficiency.
Key Result Areas
Carrier Management & Procurement
- Build, maintain, and manage a reliable, vetted network of third-party carriers for both shorthaul and linehaul operations.
- Negotiate carrier rates, commercial contracts, and service agreements to protect company margins.
- Conduct regular carrier performance evaluations and ensure strict compliance with SLAs, legal regulations, and safety standards
Transport Planning & Operations Coordination
- Oversee end-to-end transport brokerage planning and daily execution across all assigned lanes.
- Match customer freight requirements effectively with available third-party carrier capacity.
- Optimise load building, routing, and backhaul opportunities to minimise transit costs and enhance efficiency.
- Monitor daily execution, resolve exceptions proactively, and manage service delays, breakdowns, or incidents.
Customer Service & Relationship Management
- Act as the primary operational point of contact for key customer accounts.
- Provide clear, accurate load status updates, estimated times of arrival (ETAs), and timely communication during disruptions.
- Resolve customer operational issues professionally and assist in onboarding new business accounts.
Continuous Improvement of SOPs, Workflows & TMS
- Lead ongoing refinement and optimisation of operational SOPs covering load booking, carrier allocation, dispatch, tracking, exception management, and POD/billing workflows.
- Map, review, and streamline end-to-end operational workflows to enhance processing speed, accuracy, and customer experience.
- Identify operational gaps or inefficiencies and implement structural improvements with cross-functional teams.
- Work closely with TMS software providers and internal IT teams to upgrade system workflows, improve automation, reduce manual work, and enhance reporting/visibility.
- Drive full system adoption and conduct user training across the transport operations team.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement using data insights, root-cause analysis, and standardised processes.
Commercial & Financial Control
- Maintain and maximise Gross Profit (GP) margins on every load handled (brokerage GP management).
- Ensure complete accuracy across rate cards, carrier invoices, and customer billing to prevent revenue leakage.
- Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities through routing optimisation, carrier consolidation, and load density.
- Support commercial teams in preparing tenders, proposals, and transport cost models.
Risk, Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure all contracted carriers meet statutory, safety, environmental, and insurance compliance standards.
- Lead transport incident investigations and drive effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Maintain thorough documentation and complete audit readiness (PODs, manifests, contracts, and compliance files).
- Uphold company policies, operational controls, and service standard benchmarks.
Technology & Systems Utilisation
- Ensure effective, standardised use of the TMS for planning, communication, and real-time tracking.
- Monitor data integrity and enforce operational compliance with system input requirements.
- Analyse TMS and telematics data to drive operational and driver/carrier performance improvements.
Leadership & Team Management
- Manage, mentor, and guide a team of transport planners, controllers, and dispatch coordinators.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, identify training needs, and deliver targeted coaching.
- Build a high-performance culture focused on execution accuracy, speed, compliance, and customer satisfaction.

Education
- Required: Diploma or High School Certificate with relevant technical experience in logistics.
- Advantageous: Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transport Management, or a related field.
