
Overview:
To manage linehaul and short-haul transport operations in the division subject to applicable procedures and company policies.
Key Job Functions:
- Manage daily linehaul and short-haul transport operations in the company.
- Plan and implement linehaul and short-haul transport operations.
- Set up transport operations targets and plan of achievement.
- Source trucks from transporters.
- Correspond and follow up with transporters on the status of cargo in transit.
- Advice Transport general manager on short-haul and linehaul transport operations and strategies of achievement.
- Guide and train subordinate employees on work operations and procedures.
- Manage receiving empty containers for cargo transfer.
- Manage container stocktaking and report any long-standing containers if found
- Manage container condition and report those in bad condition.
- Manage full containers stacking operations as per booking documentation.
- Manage container arrangement in the terminals [separate full &Empty]
- Follow up on container cargo stuffing as per cargo and container instructions.
- Manage dispatch of empty containers for cargo loading whenever required as per shipping instructions
- Transfer of full containers to port as per shipping deadlines.
- Follow up and manage containers on transit and share status report as required.
- Manage empty and full containers movement by train.
- Follow up and guide subordinates on implementation of their daily tasks.
- Supervise and follow up with transport supervisors & controllers to ensure proper accomplishment of their tasks to meet client needs.
- Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures applicable in the department.
- Negotiate business with clients on behalf of the company at favourable rates where required.
- Attend business meetings with clients and customers.
- Ensure subordinate employees are attending to clients’ emails and tasks with priority.
- Liaise and communicate with clients/customers on their ongoing cargo transport operations.
- Prepare and provide business operations reports to the General Manager.
- Manage controllers and supervisors’ reports.
- Assist the General Manager in the company’s operations reports and reviews.
- Advise top management immediately when agreed procedures cannot be conformed to.
- Control clients/customers chargeable rates and ensure favourable charge rates for the company.
- Manage SLA with clients on behalf of the company.
- Assist in managing department overheads and budgets
- Responsible for costs and profits incumbent to position.
- Manage employees’ job performance in the division/department.
- Evaluate staff performance in their daily operations.
- Conduct daily, weekly and monthly meetings with subordinate employees to address work and standard of performance.
- Address employee underperformance and action plan of improvement
- Manage invoices, transport files and all documentation in the division/department
- Follow up with controllers and ensure they clear their files on time and proper invoicing is done.
- As immediate Manager, ensure subordinate employees comply with health and safety rules and procedures in the division.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in transport logistics, logistics management, or related field of study
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in managing transport logistics.
- Good experience in short-haul and linehaul operations.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a busy accounting environment
- Proficiency in ERP/accounting systems, preferably SAP Business One and MS Office applications
- Experience in the logistics industry or a multinational environment will be an added advantage
Skills
- High level of computer literacy in MS Office Suite
- High level of numeracy
- Excellent communication oral and verbal
- Excellent interpersonal skills
