Overview:
The overall purpose of the job is to ensure smooth, efficient and cost-efficient cargo handling operations in the terminals as per the instructions from the Management. Ensuring efficient use of company property and staff, whether employed or contracted.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Responsibilities
Terminal Management
- Ensure smooth and efficient operations and information flow in assigned terminal.
- Supervise all operations and staff on assigned area
- Supervise offloading, stacking, packing of the cargo to achieve optimum space utilisation and ensure the safety of the terminal, ensure warehouse plans, etc are updated as instructed
- Ensure terminal running costs are controlled within the approval limits
- Supervise compliance to SOP’s, work instructions and other requirements from the Terminal Manager; report back on challenges and shortcomings
- Update operational reports as instructed; supervise the operational staff responsible for reporting for timely and correct reports, including but not limited to company digital platforms
- Execute the instructions to achieve the shift/daily production targets for the area of responsibility
- Plan the required staffing levels with the Terminal Manager: Ensure staff usage/cost is efficient and in line with operational volumes
- Plan with the Terminal Manager the number of company equipment in use and ensure the equipment is used efficiently with optimal fuel consumption
- Report to the Terminal Manager daily on operational issues
- Report any outside-the-norm issues to the Terminal Manager 24/7
- Participate in staff Performance Reviews as may be required
- Identify staff training needs and report to the Terminal Manager
- Supervise housekeeping
- Ensure compliance of the Terminal, including, but not limited to, OHS, environment, chemical management and Customs requirements
Other
- Ensure personal compliance with the OHS policies and requirements.
- Ensure you follow relevant company policies and procedures.
- Any other reasonable duties assigned by a superior.
Education
- Minimum Diploma in relevant field
Experience
- 2+ years’ experience working in a similar position.
Skills
- High level of computer literacy in MS Office Suite
- High level of numeracy
- Excellent communication oral and verbal
- Excellent interpersonal skills
